Abstract: The control and treatment of solid waste is one of the earnest environmental problems needed to be resolved in the development of modern cities．At present，about 2／3 of domestic waste，2／5 of industrial solid waste and 2／5 of livestock and fowl manure have not been trea ted properly in Chongming Island and it has caused serious contamination．This paper analyzes the present state of solid waste on Chongming Island and forecasts its developing trend．The appropriate treatment measures to solid waste of Chongming Island，the idea of carrying out classifying collection of solid waste within the Island and a series of control and treatment countermeasures are put forward．
